Mustaqillik Square
The main square of the country: Ezgulik arch, fountains, Senate
Mustaqillik Square, Tashkent
About
Mustaqillik Square is Tashkent’s central square and one of Uzbekistan’s main public spaces. It hosts official ceremonies and state events, while on ordinary days people come to walk and take in the architecture. The main features include the Ezgulik Arch, fountains, the Independence Monument and the Senate building. Wide pedestrian alleys make it easy to explore at a relaxed pace.
The square is located in the central part of the city, near major administrative buildings. It works well as a short stop between appointments: you can stroll through the pedestrian area, look at the architecture and take photos. Open sections heat up quickly in summer, so a morning or evening visit is more comfortable.
