Sacred Heart Cathedral

Neo-Gothic Catholic cathedral of the Sacred Heart

Mahtumquli Street 80/1, Tashkent

About

The Sacred Heart Cathedral is an active Roman Catholic church on Mahtumquli Street in Tashkent. The building is designed in neo-Gothic style, with a restrained facade, pointed windows and a quiet interior. It welcomes parishioners and travellers interested in the European side of this multicultural city. It remains one of the few Catholic churches in Tashkent.

During the Soviet period the building was used for non-religious purposes, then returned to the Catholic community and restored. Today it is a modest, well-kept place of worship that reflects different layers of Tashkent’s history. The church does not require a long visit: you can sit quietly for a few minutes.
